Such a Morning

Trying to understand Self: A bit grand, like a mausoleum, no?

It's very grand, very white, a bit empty.

Maybe my thoughts are too loud for this place?

Artist Self: It's a bit of a library white cube, yes.

And yes potentially, our convo might be too loud.

We have to keep it down.

Also limit the facial gestures. 😰

TTUS: Where does this start?

Let's just go into the first room available?

AS: OMG this is amazing.

I've never seen a show where there are individual sized projectors mounted on the walls.

What an exquisite install.

(And no, I'm not referring to the short hand of installation when I say install. I genuinely mean install).

It's really tricky to mount everything in straight line and have things evenly spaced.

Best not to overlook such small details that actually make or break an exhibition.

And this, definitely makes the show.

I can stay here forever.

TTUS: ME TOOOOOO

There is something so calming about this exhibition.

I take back the mausoleum comment now; because the juxtaposition of the small intimate projectors with the large white space really really works.

The hand made (rice-like) paper is so textural with the projection projected on it makes the individual pieces rich and as a ensemble piece even richer.

AS: Wow, seems like I don't have to try for you today. You're on it!

TTUS: I really am.

What's really impressive is that some of the images are stills and some are moving images.

AS: Definitely.

Also, it's very reminiscent of shadow puppetry, which evokes a whole folklore narrative theme.

AND AND! there's a paper cutout theme as well.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that there is a tactility aspect to the work and you can feel how it is made.

AS: Look at that paper.

And the projections and how clear it is despite the fact that it's being projected onto paper.

FYI, the image on the above left is actually a moving image that sort of looks like a GIF which is why it looks a bit like it's blurry.

AS: LOOK AT THAT INSTALL it's beautiful.

If you just look at the lights, it's almost like looking at a row of suns.

And yes, the colour is much warmer than the previous images.

Which is quite an accurate colour to what it looks like IRL.

(Sorry if the colours are a bit all over the place, it's just that each of the rooms have different temperature lights. Thusly, it changes the feel of the room).

In Conclusion: The materiality of the show is stunning.

I love a show when you can feel the materials and you don't even have to touch it because the texture of the material can be felt on your skin.

Sometimes, I don't really put the topic of the show on priority when the materials are so good.

All I do is immerse myself within how the show is hung, the materials it's made from and have a full on daydream session on the possibilities of me making something as beautiful.

Task: Must try to go to Amar Kanwar exhibitions.

Task task: I wish you told me to make an exhibition of individualised small projections.
